Technology Introduces You a More Pleasant Silhouette...
Fat deposits in certain regions of the body can be quite resistant to shift. Despite putting into place measures of sports and diet, more and more individuals are finding themselves in plastic surgery clinics looking for support in the removal of resistant fat deposits. Classic liposuction methods have been successfully employed in the removal of regional fat deposits for many years. Developments in technology which are now affecting nearly every aspect of our lives have also seen the introduction of new methods in the removal of unwanted fat deposits. The liposuction method, which relies on the removal of excess fat through mechanical action and vacuuming has now made way to new technology, Vaser Lipo, which utilizes laser waves, sound waves, and radio frequency waves.

What is Vaser Liposuction?

Vaser is a device that uses ultrasound (high frequency sound waves) energy, which is applied as an alternative to liposuction to remove unwanted excess fat. This procedure is different to the liposuction process which uses tubes called cannulas with blades at their ends, together with mechanical force and vacuuming to remove excess fat. Instead, special cannulas are inserted under the skin in incisions which are only a few millimeters in length. These cannulas emit high frequency sound waves which gently loosens fat without the need for mechanical power.

The duration of the application of the Vaser Liposuction method is decided depending on the size of the application area and the amount of excess fat to be removed, however fat cells are easily liquidised in this process. Once the fat cells have been gently broken down, a very thin cannula is used to remove the liquidised fat via vacuum.

Can I Lose Weight with the Vaser Liposuction Method?

Vaser liposuction is never applied for the purposes of weight loss. Removing fat in high quantities for the purpose of weight loss increases the risk of undesirable health conditions. In addition to the risks to health, it causes unrecoverable sagging skin due to the removal of too much tissue beneath the skin being removed at once. Skin tightening can be achieved through the tightening function provided by Vaser technology to a certain extent, however excessive sagging can not be prevented.

What are the Advantages of Vaser Liposuction?

The sound waves have an effect on fat cells only. Veins, nerves and muscles are not affected by this energy. Once the fat cells have been gently broken down, a very thin cannula is used to remove the liquidized fat via vacuum. Because of the non-invasive method used, bleeding, bruising and pain is minimised and the healing period is shortened.

The Vaser liposuction process provides us with another advantage. There is a "skin tightening mode" which allows the skin to be treated for tightening once the excess fat has been removed from the area being treated.

Are Vaser Liposuction Procedures Risky?

Vaser liposuction, applied with the right purpose and right technique, is a successful procedure in the branch of aesthetic plastic surgery.
Liposuction, Vaser liposuction and Laser liposuction operations can cause serious complications if they are carried out by individuals who are inexperienced or are not professionals in the area of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Risks are further posed if they are performed with the wrong technical equipment and without proper planning. Extra precautions should be taken for patients who take medications for hypertension, diabetes, or who have varicose veins or are advanced in age. The likelihood for undesirable consequences and increased risk in such patients is high. Patients should be aware that such treatments are applied for body shaping and contouring not to achieve sensational results by removing large quantities of fat. For this reason, it is important to choose a reliable, specialized plastic surgery specialist with an ethical approach.
There are no additional or different risks for liposuction or Vaser liposuction procedures when compared to other aesthetic surgical operations, only if they are performed by expert aesthetic surgeons with proper patient selection and appropriate planning.

Which Areas of the Body Can the Vaser Liposuction Method be Applied?

Vaser Liposuction is applied to particular regions of the body. Appropriate body regions for this procedure are defined as fat storage zones that do not respond to diet or sports programs for weight loss and disturb the contour or silhouette of the body.
Contour irregularities tend to be in the following areas of the body:
    •  Hips
    •  Thighs
    •  Inner thighs
    •  Above and below the belly button
    •  Abdominal fat
    •  Upper arms
    •  Inner knees
    •  Unusual breast enlargement in males referred to as gynecomastia
    •  Both sides of the breast
    •  Neck (double chin)

Is Vaser Liposuction Effective in the Removal of Cellulite and Other Surface Irregularities?

Classic liposuction is not effective against irregularities such as cellulite present on the surface of the skin. However, Vaser liposuction can provide some reduction in cellulite due to the "skin tightening mode" which is applied after the fat is removed. However, the expression "Vaser Liposuction destroys cellulite" is not realistic. Vaser Liposuction can provide some reduction in cellulite present due to tightening treatment.

Can the Fat Removed from One Part of My Body be Used in Another Using the Vaser Liposuction Technique?

Yes it can be used. Unlike conventional liposuction where blades are used at the end of a cannula together with mechanical force, the Vaser Liposuction method removes excess fat via a vacuum using ultrasound energy only. As a result of the experiences in clinical applications, it has been concluded that fat tissue removed through Vaser liposuction experiences less damage and is therefore more effective and more permanent results are achieved when used elsewhere in the body as a filler.

What Can I Expect at My First Doctor's Consultation?

During your first consultation, your specialist will assess your current situation and listen to your expectations. Your doctor will inform you about the expected result following the procedure. Together, you can also evaluate whether or not you wish to use the excess fat to be removed in a different area of your body as a filler.

What Kind of Anesthesia is Used in the Vaser Liposuction Procedure?

The Vaser Liposuction procedure is usually performed under sedoanalgesia, which is a combination of sedation and local anesthesia. Depending on the scope of the operation and the condition of the individual, it can also be performed under general anesthesia.

Will I Have any Scarring Following the Vaser Liposuction Procedure?

Vaser liposuction is applied by moving cannulas under the skin through small incisions which are a few millimeters in length. The fat tissue is removed through these small incisions using cannulas to vacuum out the liquidised fat after the Vaser probe breaks down the fat cells through ultrasound energy. Depending on the region where the procedure will be performed, usually 2 - 6 incisions with an average length of 1 cm are used. Therefore, the marks left after the procedure are not long or large incisions but are approximately 1 cm in length. Once a few months have passed the incisions will be marks that are barely visible.

On Average, How Long Does the Procedure Take?

The procedure takes on average 1 to 2 hours.

What Should I be Aware of Before the Vaser Liposuction Procedure?

    •  Smoking is a risk factor for any surgical procedure. It is recommended that you do not smoke for a month before and after the procedure, especially because it can cause discomfort and additional complications in wound healing.
    •  It is recommended that you do not take aspirin or medications that contain aspirin 2 weeks prior to surgery.
    •  It is recommended you do not take alcohol the night before the operation so that dehydration does not occur.
    •  You should not eat or drink anything 8 hours prior to the surgery.
    •  Following the surgery, we recommend that you have comfortable clothing with you for your stay in the hospital (tracksuit, nightgown with buttons down the front etc.).

What Can I Expect Following the Vaser Liposuction Procedure?

Due to the mild anesthesia applied during the operation, you will feel awake and well quickly. After a few hours in hospital, you will be released to return home. A night of hospitalization is only necessary for procedures that have been applied to larger regions.
After the procedure, various bandages and dressings will be applied to the areas in which the liposuction was performed. In this way, swelling and bleeding will be prevented. The use of bandages and dressings are lessened within a few days.
Following the procedure it will be necessary to wear pressure garments such as corsets for a certain period of time depending on the region where the vaser liposuction was performed. However, this period is considerably reduced due to the use of early massage applications following the procedure. The average length of corset use is 2-6 weeks, depending on the application area and amount of excess fat removed.

When will I See the Results of the Vaser Liposuction Procedure?

It is difficult to see the result of the Vaser Liposuction procedure immediately following the surgery. In fact, in the first few days the area in which the procedure was performed may seem larger than before. This is due to swelling that occurs in response to the procedure. The swelling will start to subside within a few days, and the result will gradually begin to reveal itself. Within 2-3 weeks, you will notice that you will be significantly thinner and shapelier and the results will improve day by day. Your swelling will completely subside within 3-6 months.
In Vaser liposuction, the tightening process is not visible in the first few days. You will see the effect of this process and the tightening of your skin gradually from the first few weeks onwards.
