What is Genital Cosmetic Surgery?
Genital cosmetic surgery is the general term for procedures carried out to change the shape, size or proportions of the genital area that may cause unhappiness, or restrict movement (while cycling or horse riding) or where your sexual life is negatively affected.
What Kind of Procedures are Involved in Genital Cosmetic Surgery?
The most commonly performed procedures in genital cosmetic surgery are labiaplasty which involves surgery to the inner or outer lips and vaginoplasty which involves tightening the inside of the vagina.
Labial reduction (labiaplasty) is usually performed when the patient feels that the vaginal lips are larger than she would desire. Labial reduction, a very simple procedure which involves the process of removing the excess tissue of the inner lips using small incisions and reducing them to the desired size.
Vaginal rejuvenation (vaginoplasty) is a procedure that re-tightens the vagina, which is loosened by the effects of childbirth or age. Patients may come with a complaint of decreased satisfaction in their sexual lives as well as that of their partner. In the vaginal tightening procedure, excess tissue is removed from the vaginal lining resulting in a vagina with a smaller diameter. Depending on what is needed in this area, folds are made in the mucosa and / or muscle tissues to create the desired tightness.
I am Unhappy with the Dark Color Differences in the Genital Region. Is There Anything that Can be Done About it?
Yes. It is possible to eliminate colour differences in the genital area through a colour restoration procedure.
Genital color restoration; is the lightening and renewal of the colour of the skin in labia major (large lips, external lips), labia minor (small lips, inner lips) or skin tissue around the vaginal area. The process is performed with devices that employ laser and radiofrequency technology.
Am I a Good Candidate for Genital Cosmetic Surgery?
You may be a candidate for genital cosmetic surgery if; you feel that you have large, thick, irregular vaginal lips, you notice that your inner lips are visible when your legs are closed, clothing does not sit the way it should, there is a change in the satisfaction you experience in your sexual life due to excess tissue in the genital area, or you observe asymmetry in your genital lips. By consulting our cosmetic surgery specialists, you can learn about the technique that could be applied to your genital area and to achieve the results you desire.
I Plan on Having Another Child. Am I Suitable for Vaginal Rejuvenation (vaginoplasty)?
The procedure will not prevent you from childbirth. However, it is more meaningful to leave this operation for after childbirth because you are likely to re-experience loosening of the tissues in this area following it.
Is it Possible to Have Vaginal Rejuvenation (vaginoplasty) or Labial Reduction (labiaplasty) Following a C-Section?
Technically it is possible to have the procedure, but it is not very practical. It is not possible to predict how much the skin will recover after childbirth and what kind of hormonal changes will take place. For this reason, we recommend that patients wait for 3-6 months following a C-section before considering this procedure.
I am a New Mother. How Long Should I Wait Before I have Genital Cosmetic Surgery (vaginoplasty)?
Waiting 3 to 6 months is a sufficient period of time to wait before carrying out the procedure. During this time, the tissues in the genital area will have had enough time to recover. However, if you are breastfeeding, we recommend that you delay the procedure until the end of the breastfeeding period because anesthesia can negatively affect breast milk supply.
Is There Scarring as a Result of Genital Cosmetic Surgery?
Most of the incisions are made in the mucosal and fine skin area so there is very rarely any traces of the procedure.
The incisions are made in the mucosal area. If smooth and aesthetic sutures are used in the mucous membranes, there is little or no trace left behind. The sutures used are self-absorbable so they do not require removal.
At Istanbul Surgical Arts, we are very sensitive about maintaining the natural appearance and color of the genital region. Thanks to our specialist doctors using the best materials and applying sutures aesthetically, the natural shape of the genital area is preserved.
Is it Possible to Get Rid of the Excess Tissue in the Bikini Area?
Yes. It is possible to flatten this region, often referred to as "Venus Hill" (mons pubis), in a relatively short period of time using the liposuction method. This procedure results in the padding of the mons pubis area being less prominent.
procedures often include this procedure to provide the "Venus Hill" with an attractive appearance.
What Can I Expect at My First Doctor's Consultation?
Your specialist doctor will listen to your concerns and expectations during your first consultation. After an examination, the doctor will provide his professional opinion regarding whether or not a genital cosmetic procedure is recommended. If a procedure is recommended information regarding the technique to be used will be shared with you.
On Average, How Long do Genital Cosmetic Surgery Procedures Take?
Procedures usually take approximately 1 to 2 hours.
What Kind of Anesthesia is Used in Genital Cosmetic Surgery Procedures?
Such procedures are usually performed under sedoanalgesia, which is a combination of sedation and local anesthesia. Sedoanalgesia is administered intravenously, the patient becomes sleepy and the patient does not feel any pain during the procedure. Some procedures can be performed under local anesthesia alone, without the need to put the patient to sleep.
What Should I be Aware of Before the Procedure?
• It will be more convenient to perform the operation immediately after the menstrual period. You will have a more comfortable healing process without the need to use a tampon or pad.
• Smoking is a risk factor for any surgical procedure. It is recommended that you do not smoke for a month before and after the procedure, especially because it can cause discomfort and additional complications in wound healing.
• It is recommended that you do not take aspirin or medications that contain aspirin 2 weeks prior to surgery.
• It is recommended you do not take alcohol the night before the operation so that dehydration does not occur.
• You should not eat or drink anything 8 hours prior to the surgery.
• Following the surgery, we recommend that you have comfortable clothing with you for your stay in the hospital (tracksuit, nightgown with buttons down the front etc).
When will I See the Results of the Genital Cosmetic Surgery Procedure?
In fact, the result is immediately noticeable. There may be some swelling and/or bruising which may vary from person to person. It will take 4 to 6 weeks for all these effects to disappear and for the final result to be fully visible. Most of the swelling (70 to 80%) will have subsided within the first 10 days.
What Can I Expect Following the Genital Cosmetic Surgery Procedure?
On the day of the operation, you may feel some slight swelling and you are expected to spend a day resting. You can return to work in 2 to 3 days if your work is not strenuous or does not involve a lot of walking or standing. You can have sexual intercourse about one month following the operation. This will provide the sensitized area time to heal.
It is recommended that you avoid heavy exercise for 2 to 3 weeks and avoid the use of a tampon for 10 days following the procedure. Your doctor will share detailed information about instructions you will need to follow during regular checks following the procedure.
